Hassan Whiteside, the enigmatic and fun center for the Miami Heat, can add Marcin Gortat to his growing fan club.

The Wizards center raved about Whiteside’s ability as a shot-blocker after swatting six balls during last night’s Heat win in Washington, four of them against Gortat personally.

“Hassan Whiteside was incredible,” Marcin Gortat said. “I personally haven’t seen a better shot-blocker in the past nine years in the league. He’s really challenging a lot of shots and changing the whole game. He’s pretty good.”

Whiteside leads the NBA in blocks this season, averaging 4.0 per game. His 10.8 block percentage is on pace to tie Manute Bol (in 1987 and 1989) for the best mark in NBA history.

However Wizards guard John Wall diluted his teammate’s declaration after being told of his praise, saying “Gortat says that about everybody that blocks shots.”

We’ll see if Wall’s opinion changes next time he charges towards Whiteside’s rim.
