While Stephen A. Smith is out here reporting LeBron James could return to Miami if Cleveland wins the championship this season, the Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman thinks LeBron is purely “sweating Dan Gilbert” because he “lives to sweat people.”
“I would not be surprised if part of this leverage is I need you to get rid of Kevin Love,” Winderman said on the Joe Rose Show with Curtis Stevenson. “He’s nothing more than an outside shooter. Bring me my buddy Carmelo Anthony. Bring me my buddy Chris Paul instead. I think that’s what this is all about.
“He opts out of his contract on June 30 and July 1 he walks into Dan Gilbert’s office and says, if you want me back it’s on my terms. You need to trade players X, Y, and Z for the guys that I want and I think that’s what you’re gonna see.”
The whole LeBron-to-Miami thing is nonsense.
I’m not sure why Smith even reported it. Despite his presence on the hot-take-spewing First Take, he clearly values his reputation as an NBA insider.
Maybe he went with it knowing full well Cleveland has no chance of beating Oklahoma City or Golden State if they slip past Toronto so it won’t matter anyway.
LeBron’s inner circle is comprised of master manipulators and reports of his free agency endeavors should be taken with chugs of salt.
