No doubt the Miami Hurricanes are expected to be an improved program with Mark Richt at the helm but one Nebraska reporter is apparently ready to proclaim the Canes among the national elite before the season even gets started.

Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald is an AP Top 25 poll voter and had Miami at No. 11 in his poll. Props to McKewon for having some cojones. His take:

“I like the quarterback, I like the accumulated talent (Al Golden was a good recruiter) and I like the new head coach. Richt will be motivated to prove something at Miami and prove it quickly. “

The actual AP Top 25 was also released this morning and Miami received enough votes to technically come in at 26th.

It’s not difficult to see why some are hyping up the Canes, with a new established coach calling the shots and a quarterback some think is a future first-round pick.

While it may take time to reshape a program, I don’t think anyone would be shocked to see this team win nine or ten games in Year 1 of the Richt Era, especially in the perpetually mediocre ACC.
